Job Description: Residential Counselor - Social Sciences > Psychology
Position Overview:
The Residential Counselor will be responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals residing in a residential facility. This role focuses on promoting psychological well-being, assisting with daily living activities, and fostering a positive and therapeutic living environment. The Residential Counselor will work closely with residents, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and progress towards individual goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address residents' emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs.
2. Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the resident and the treatment team.
3. Monitor and document resident's progress, behaviors, and responses to interventions.
4. Assist residents in developing and maintaining daily living skills, including personal hygiene, meal planning, and housekeeping.
5. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
6. Collaborate with families, guardians, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to resident care.
7. Facilitate and participate in team meetings, case conferences, and staff training sessions.
8. Maintain accurate and confidential records, including case notes, progress reports, and incident reports.
9. Stay updated on current research, best practices, and legal requirements in the field of psychology and residential counseling.
10. Uphold ethical standards and professional boundaries in all interactions with residents, families, and colleagues.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field. (Master's degree preferred)
2. Proven experience working in a residential facility or similar environment.
3. Strong knowledge of psychological theories, counseling techniques, and behavioral interventions.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with residents and their families.
5. Ability to assess, evaluate, and document residents' progress and behaviors accurately.
6. Empathy, compassion, and patience to work effectively with individuals facing mental health challenges.
7. Proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
9. Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines in the field of psychology and residential counseling.
10. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
